A carrd by Spiritsys

Who We Are
Hello! We are Spiritsys, an OSDD system. We used to be quite active in system spaces, but have started to feel differently about a lot of things. We really wanted a good source for systems that isn't pro-endogenic. So we decided to scrap our previous sites and make a carrd for systems and their supporters!

So, What's a System?
A system is the name for a person who has alters. This can be caused by certain dissociative disorders, such as DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), OSDD-1 (Other Specified Dissociative Disorder type 1), and UDD (Unspecified Dissociative Disorder).
Alters are different identities (not personalities) that are created by the brain. These identities have their own thoughts, feelings, ideals, and personalities. Alters can also have their own names, preferences, looks, and styles.
DID, OSDD, and UDD all form from trauma. They can, and most often do, form from intense trauma, but it is more about how the brain processes the trauma than how severe the trauma was.

System Terms
- Singlet
 Someone without alters
- Splitting
When the brain creates a new alter. Almost always a result of high stress
- Little
 A child-aged alter
- Introject
An alter than the brain has based off of an existing thing or idea
- Innerworld
Not a system-specific term, and also called headspace. Many people (especially systems) have an inner world in their mind that they dissociate into. This is different from just an imagined world
- Fronting
When an alter is controlling the body is some way
- Fragment
An incomplete alter, that has not been fully developed by the brain
- Integration
The breaking of amnesia or dissociative barriers between alters. This is essential for healing
- Fusion
When two alters become one, either to help heal or to protect the system. Not essential for healing, but some may choose to pursue Final Fusion (the fusing of all alters) as their end goal for healing
- Polyfragmented
A term used by many systems with Complex-DID to describe their experience. A common misconception is that polyfragmentation is tied to alter count, but this is untrue
- Non-human Alter
An alter that does not appear or does not identify as human. This also includes inanimate object alters
- Age Slider
An alter who's age in the innerworld changes or can change
- RAMCOA
A certain type of abuse. Please exercise caution when looking up this term, as it is incredibly severe abuse and can be dangerous to learn about, whether you've gone through this kind of abuse or not
- Psuedomemories
Memories that have been made up by the brain, usually to cover up some kind of trauma
- Source (Introject-specific term)
What the brain has based a specific alter on, be it a concept, thing, or piece of media
- Subgroup
A group of alters within the system that, while not separate from the system, may act like it. Usually, these groups will have less amnesia or dissociative barriers between members of the group
- Subsystem
When an alter splits off into themselves, causing the alter to have a system of their own
- Sidesystem
When a split happens in such a way that causes a group of alters to act as if they are their own system, separate from the main system

Alter Roles
Feel free to contact us if you'd like your term added! We will credit everyone!
- Protector
An alter who protects the system in some way. There are many sub-roles to this role
- Host
The alter(s) who fronts the most
- Caretaker
An alter who takes care of some part of system
- Persecutor
An alter that can be harmful to people in and/or outside of the system
- Trauma Holder
An alter who "holds" trauma. Usually either an alter who remembers specific traumas or keeps these traumas out of the other alter's memories
- Symptom Holder
An alter who has symptoms more prominently than other alters, sometimes can suppress the symptoms of other alters
- Emotion Holder
An alter that can better regulate emotions, so usually deals with the system's emotions
- Gatekeeper
An alter that can somewhat control who can front, and sometimes even when
Community Terms
- Innocence Holder (ss)
Usually a little, an alter who is an internal representation of the host's "innocence" before trauma
- First Aid (fj)
An alter who aids after a traumatic situation, stress, or flashbacks

An alter who grabs specific alters and/or memories for therapy
- Advocator (fj)
An alter who speaks up for parts who cannot and makes sure they get what they need
- Planner (fj)
An alter who plans tasks for the week for the ANP(s) and Host(s)
- Intern (fj)
Similar to a gatekeeper, but only has the capability to handle certain things and tasks
- Advisor (fj)
An alter who oversees Interns and makes sure nothing too heavy bleeds through; similar to a gatekeeper but for certain alters
- Storage (fj)
An alter who holds specific information, usually important information like legal or medical
- Mediator (fj)
An alter who offers grounding and coping mechanisms during times of stress
- Negotiator (fj)
An alter who resolves internal issues and stress
- Builder (fj)
An alter who specifically helps fragments and fusions
- Roll Call (fj)
An alter who tracks who's been fronting or conscious
- Integration Center (fj)
An alter who specifically works to better communication in therapy

Bad and Outdated Terms
- -Genic Terms
This one is a little bit hard to explain to some systems. According to the scientific theory of structural dissociation, alters can only form before the age of 8-12, and the cause is the child's brain not fusing their identity into a singular person
- Tulpa
A term with racist and xenophobic contexts. Tulpa is a term stolen from certain eastern cultures who practice what is called Tulpamancy, which can be mistaken for having alters. However, being a system is very different from being a Tulpamancer
- Core
An outdated term that implies that systems had an "original alter"
- (disorder)-holder
A misunderstanding of the alter role called symptom holder. However, a certain alter having a disorder (especially a neurological disorder) that the rest of the system does not have is impossible, as alters share the same brain with the rest of the system
